We love racing. Yes, we are crazy. Mostly triathlons, with a sprinkling of running races thrown in and a healthy aspiration to race in a century ride someday. Once, we actually retired for a season. Like Lance Armstrong minus the celebrity factor. True story.
Training is also fun but mostly it's just grueling and an excuse to eat more cupcakes. Don't judge. They are well deserved calories.
Back in 2007, my mom casually mentioned she had competed in a few triathlons and really enjoyed it. My immediate thought was "There is no way I can let my 50+ year old mother outdo me!"
That summer, I found myself racing in my first triathlon (alongside my mom) and haven't looked back since. Except that one time I tore my ACL and I seriously doubted my ability to ever walk normally again. (If you're wondering, thankfully I was proved wrong.)
Around the time Red Beard and I started dating, his curiousity was peaked. In other words, he also had the same thought: "There is no way I can let my hot girlfriend outdo me!" and caught the triathlon bug.
Of course, being the nice gal I am, I made sure to beat him when we completed our first triathlon together.
Below is a list of the races we've participated in throughout the years. No, we will not participate in any races which involve lakes. There are alligators in Florida and also, any body of water that resembles a lake is actually a retention pond or drainage ditch.
